About our rights
The UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities was agreed by the UN in March 2007. Since then it has been signed by over 170 countries. The Convention re-affirms that people with disabilities have human rights just like everybody else. It also sets out specific things that all countries that have agreed to the Convention must do to make those rights a reality. You can download the text of the Convention here.
The Convention is so powerful for Young Voices because it’s the law. When we go and speak to people in power about our rights we can say to them: this needs to be addressed because the Convention says so.
